Background of Lingguan:??
Unique to the Qing dynasty court, a plume holder represented an official's merits and status, serving as a rank identifier. During formal meetings, all officials were required to wear headwear adorned with a spherical gemstone secured by the plume holder, a tubular ornament that encircled the feather.
Historical records indicate that only the finest materials were used for plume holders; jadeite and white jade were reserved for the highest-ranking civil and military officials. Additionally, peacock feathers with one to three "eyes" (the eye-like patterns on the feathers) also denoted rank, with only the most prestigious officials permitted to use feathers featuring three "eyes."
